
NURSERY SCHOOL DIRECTOR
Title: Nursery School Director
Reports to: Senior Pastor, Nursery Team, and Kids Pastor
Wages: Salary with benefits
Job Description:
To coordinate, budget, manage the successful daily operation of and supervise employees of the FBCM Nursery School following the Department of Human Services (DHS) and school district guidelines. This position is an administrative, multi-faceted, team-leading position that requires good people and leadership skills. Additionally, this job requires time in the office and, when needed, time outside of the office in the classroom with students, teachers, and/or parents. Qualifications:
Education, Certification, and/or Experience:
Must pass a background check and fingerprinting
Must be certified in CPR and basic first aid (certification must be kept current)
Must be able to be certified as a Director of a child care center per the Department of Human Services in Tennessee
Must be familiar with and certified as stated in the Licensure Rules for Childcare Agencies chapter 1240-04-01 including, but not limited to the following:
36 hours of coursework at least 30 which shall be in business management, child or youth development, early childhood education or a closely related field or a TN Early Childhood Administrator Credential
Or Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or it’s equivalent and four years of full-time documented work experience with young children in a group setting and received a Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) certificate for completing thirty hours of orientation training or comparable training by the Department of Human Services (DHS)
Or Graduate from an accredited 4-year college or be a registered nurse with less than a 4-year degree (preferred)
Three years experience as a classroom teacher of young children
Three to five successful years experience/managing child care facilities
Must be in good physical and mental health. A physical examination by a physician is required upon hiring.
Special Knowledge & Skills:
Ability to work in a shared space within a church setting alongside church staff and teams
Thorough understanding of childcare center operations
Strong organizational, communication, public relations, computer and interpersonal skills
Ability to coordinate center functions
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Knowledge and implementation of Tennessee childcare guidelines and state licensing
Comprehensive knowledge and proven success implementing programs for children based on developmentally appropriate practices
Accepts and respects differences in children, parents, and coworkers
Major Responsibilities, Duties, & Further Qualifications:
Instructional Management
1. Maintain, at all times, high quality child care standards based on developmentally appropriate practices.
Personnel Management
2. Supervise all staff members of the childcare center, including substitute staff, in compliance with requirements established by the Nursery Team
3. Oversee the hiring process and orientation for all new staff, including substitutes
4. Provide accurate and meaningful annual performance evaluations for all Nursery School staff
5. See that staff members have proper medical examinations, TB skin test and attend Early Childhood Education workshops as required by licensing authorities
6. Maintain records on all employees as required by licensing requirements
7. Conduct staff meetings as necessary
8. Terminate employees in accordance with the requirements established by the Nursery Team
Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions
9. Develop a budget for the center and establish controls to assure that the center adheres to the budget
10. Supervise operation of center during all operating hours or designate a qualified person to cover during absence
11. Ensure that the program is cost effective and funds are managed prudently
12. Oversee the day to day functions of the child care center and manage staff, including, but not limited to, assisting teachers with planning activities for all ages
13. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the operation of the child care center
14. Assure compliance with all Department of Human Resources standards, including maintenance of annual fire, health, and other inspections
15. Coordinate annual licensing of the child care center with DHS
16. Oversee the maintenance of files according to DHS requirements
17. Maintain open and consistent communication with parents, providing parent education training, assistance, and support as needed
18. Maintain open and consistent communication with church staff and nursery team, providing important updates regarding general functions, licensing, and maintenance of the child care center and its equipment
19. Assist in other projects as assigned by Senior Pastor, Kids Pastor, and/or Nursery Team
20. Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of First Baptist Church of Maryville and follow directives and guidance from Senior Pastor, Kids Pastor, and/or Nursery Team
21. Follow attendance policy according to FBCM Nursery School
22. Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Senior Pastor, Kids Pastor, and/or Nursery School
23. Work with the church administrator in arranging with maintenance, cleaning, and services for the church areas used by the Nursery School
24. Receiving children, assigning to proper group and having the necessary information recorded as required by DHS
25. Ordering and securing supplies, equipment, and materials necessary for the programs and activities. Any major expenditure must be approved by the Nursery Team
26. Prepare semi-monthly time sheets for all employees and give payroll to church Financial Ministry Assistant
27. Determine and collect the proper fee for each child in accordance with the rate schedule established by the Nursery Team
28. Prepare monthly financial report detailing all expenses
29. Turning over to and accounting for the weekly deposits to the Financial Ministry Assistant, and account for all cash expenditures
Professional Growth and Development
30. Annually, attend professional development seminars to maintain an understanding of the current best practices of curriculum and administrative functions of child development programs, for a total of twenty-four hours, six of these hours must be in administration. During the first year of employment, thirty-six hours of training must be received in administration, child development, early childhood education, health/safety or other related field. At least 6 hours must be in administration, management or supervisory training
31. Oversee the training and professional development of all child care staff
School, Church, or Community Relations
32. Articulate the center’s mission to employees and others to solicit support in realizing the mission of the FBCM Nursery School
33. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement
34. Represent the Nursery School in a professional, courteous, positive manner at all times
35. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning for staff, students, and parents
36. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds
37. Communicate effectively with staff, students, and their families
38. Ensure a healthy relationship between the Church and the Nursery School, including but not limited to, keeping the children and preschool areas clean and ready for Sunday mornings; sharing calendar events; and regularly communicating with the Kids Pastor through the week
Other
39. Should be a Christian and member of a local church
40. Attend staff meetings as required by the Senior Pastor
41. Serve as an ex-officio member of the Nursery Team and attend meetings when scheduled by the Nursery Team chair and Kids Pastor
42. The director may be needed in a classroom on as much as a daily basis and must be familiar and interacting with all of the children on a consistent basis.

We will be closed to acknowledge Martin Luther King Day. We will re-open January 19 on regular schedule.

Christmas/New Year Break
We are closed for Christmas and New Year break from December 21 through January 4. Merry Christmas! We hope you have a safe New Year and we will see you very soon.

Thanksgiving Break
We will be closed November 25-27 for Thanksgiving break. We hope you have a wonderful time with family and friends. We are thankful for you!


Labor Day (Closed)
We will be closed on September 7 to recognize Labor Day. We will re-open on September 8 regular schedule.

NURSERY SCHOOL REOPENS
Our nursery school has been closed since March due to COVID-19. After following regulations from the CDC, we are now prepared to re-open our doors.
